Share market trading tips>>Key indices outperformed global counterparts; oil & gas stocks lead

The Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex closed at 18,439.48, up 265.39 points or 1.46% from its previous close, while National Stock Exchange’s Nifty shut shop at 5531.50, up 86.05 points or 1.58%.

Wholesale price index (WPI) inflation for the month of February came in at 8.31% versus 8.23% (MoM). WPI manufacturing products inflation too rose to 4.94% versus 3.75% (MoM), while WPI fuel group inflation was at 11.49% versus 11.41% (MoM). On the contrary, WPI primary articles inflation fell to 14.79% versus 17.28% (MoM).

Reliance Communications (4.36%) led the long list of gainers on the Sensex, followed by Tata Power (3.72%), Reliance Infra (3.48%) and Tata Steel  (3.27%). Reliance ADAG stocks gained in office today as Nippon Life Insurance acquired 26% stake in Reliance Life Insurance in exchange of $680 mn.

Among the stocks which failed to make it to the positive zone at close, included Bharti Airtel (-0.4%), Hindustan Unilever (-0.16%), ONGC (-0.14%) and Hero Honda (-0.06%).

Market breadth remained strong throughout the day. Out of 2993 stocks traded on the BSE, 1516 advanced, 1329 declined and 148 remained unchanged.
